Here in Obeo our aim is to tackle the ever growing food waste problem by encouraging people to recycle. To date we have managed to divert an estimated 775,000KG of food waste from landfill. Luckily we are not alone in this fight. There are a number of other amazing companies who are coming up with innovative ways to tackle this ever growing issue. Why food waste is a major issue & what you can do to help!
Food Waste is a major issue. According to the FAO, roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption gets lost or wasted every year. This resulted in over £15 billion worth of food being binned in the UK in 2015 alone! Fruits and veg have the highest wastage rates. Summer is in full swing here in Ireland & although the temperature isn’t exactly soaring, one thing is for sure, brown bins and heat do not mix!
